I've finished up my littles for the Club Little House exchange and now I must prepare a home for the littles that will soon arrive here. I recently brought home all of my childhood treasures that my mom had been storing in her garage. Among them were my dollhouse miniatures. I brought out Gretchen, Franchesca, and Beatrice so they could pick out the things they want to furnish their new house with.
Franchesca thought the kitchen was a bit 1980's but loved the cabinets and drawers it afforded.
She liked the look of the wooden fridge but was disappointed that it didn't open. I promised her I'd put "new fridge, one that opens" on our shopping list.
Gretchen was thrilled to see a working dishwasher, she promptly loaded it to give everything a good wash but quickly realized there was no detergent- note to self: add "dishwasher detergent" to shopping list.
Franchesca was happy to find this watering can and inquired about getting some house plants. I put "house plants" on the shopping list.
The girls were happy to see a large sofa with matching armchairs. They asked me if I wouldn't mind reupholstering them in a slightly more feminine fabric. No problem girls, I'll get right to it!
Gretchen was thrilled to find a little dog. The girls discussed naming the dog after their favorite flower, but since they each liked a different flower they thought the name Hydrangea Orchid Dahlia was a bit much and so they settled on Penelope. Beatrice noted that Penelope needs her own dog bowl and perhaps even another animal friend, she thought maybe a bird would be nice. No problem Beatrice, I'll put them on our list.
Franchesca discovered a lovely bed.
She tried it out. She found it to be quite comfy. She asked for "a heavier duvet since winter is coming after all." I told her I would make one. She asked that it be "charming and feminine." "Of course it shall be" I said.
Penelope climbed right in and found the bed to be quite comfy too.
The girls happened upon some fruit and were glad to have a snack. They inquired about baking supplies, muffin tins, a cake stand etc. as they love to bake and hoped to get to baking as soon as they moved in. I put "baking supplies etc." on our shopping list.
Franchesca was happy to come across this little dolly bed. She asked that I help her spruce it up and also find a dolly for it and make the dolly some bedding. I added "dolly" and "make dolly bedding" to our list.
The girls agreed on keeping this braided rug. They lay down on it and chatted for a while. Beatrice suggested it might be nice to practice Yoga on, but Gretchen reminded her that their knees and elbows didn't bend so Yoga would likely be a challenge. Poor Beatrice, she had so hoped to become a student of Yoga.
Gretchen was happy to see there was plenty of lighting. She wondered about getting a chandelier. Hmm, we'll see about that one. She liked the table, though she asked that I dust it and suggested a fresh coat of paint to spruce it up. No problem Gretchen, consider it done!
The girls stumbled across this "quilt" and issue of "Contry Living"(intended to be Country Living) magazine that I made for my dollhouse as a little girl. I remember my mother sewing a small sampler quilt and I wanted to make a quilt also so I used her scraps to make my own quilt (glued on to a piece of paper). My mom has read Country Living magazine since it began so it is no surprise that as a child I made a Country Living magazine of my own for my dolls. Even then I liked the magazine!!
I took a moment to read the magazine. It features a table and chairs/dining scene on the front and inside it contains some text and a picture of a living room complete with a little lamp on a table. Alright girls, it's time to get back to work. What should we look at next? Girls?...girls???
Oh dear me. Bless their little hearts. They've fallen asleep. I'll just let them rest while I work on getting together this new house of theirs.
So this is the dollhouse I have ordered. Actually I ordered two of them as they are fairly small. I think they will make a nice cottage for Gretchen, Beatrice, Franchesca and Penelope. I am hoping to be able to switch some of the walls around and fit them right up next to each other so they appear as one house. I am so excited about this project. I LOVE to decorate so this is right up my alley. I will share my progress as soon as they arrive and I can get started! Now I have to start to work on reupholstering that sofa, making a duvet, painting furniture and gathering the things on our shopping list. I want to have a lot of progress made so the girls are surprised when they wake up from their dreamy slumber.Ciao!

That's a pretty big list for such little girls! Just adorable.

A wonderful post Kim. Love those 3 gals...they are so adorable. Will be fun to watch them set up house as Club Little House stuff arrives. Love the fact that they can't do yoga either! Put a smile on my face.
