Cabin Visit

 

Summer=Cabin Trips. The cabin is a special place for our family. Come and see why...

 

...you can play fun games at the cabin, such as throwing shoes...
 

...we eat yummy treats...
 

...we have special cabin toys...
 

...the weather is beautiful...

 

...you can practice your bowling game...

 

...we have simple delicious meals, like crock pot spaghetti...
 

...there are fun vintage things throughout the cabin...

 

...I bring yummy breakfast treats, like this berry cream cheese coffee cake...

 

...we pick wild flowers...
 

...and press wild flowers...
 

...we take long walks by the meadow...

...I get to sleep in my favorite room, this is my kind of camping...
 

...yes, indeed the cabin is a special place. Full of special people and memories.

Weekend at the Cabin

 
We spent a few nights at the cabin over the weekend.

 
As we arrived it was snowing! It was beautiful and really exciting for the kids.

 
I took this photo of the pussy willow covered in snow from the kitchen window. So pretty!

 
By morning the sun was shining and the snow was melting. We went for a walk to the meadow.

 
The road along the meadow was as pretty as ever.

 
Audrey perfected her snow ball making skills.  It was a great weekend. I am looking forward to a summer filled with trips to the cabin!

 

 

Cabin Time

We spent the weekend at the cabin. We enjoyed a visit to the lake, making smores, riding the cabin's cruisers by the meadow, fishing, and sharing time with great friends. There was a lot of snow this year and the wildflowers are still in bloom. Here are some pictures from my ride by the meadow...

Once Upon A Time...

 

I've noticed in my blog reading that there is clearly a large number of ladies out there with an affinity for doors. Old doors, painted doors, doors that hang in doorways or stand against a wall, lots of doors out there. So, here you go. Introducing Camp Whimsy's Door!!!! What cabin in the woods would be complete without red door with cozy "Once Upon A Time" sign?

 

Cool old metal chair to rest in and Mr. Cabin Bear to greet you. Everyone knows how the story goes, Once Upon A Time...

The Canine Themed Room at Camp Whimsy

 

My little sister's room upstairs at the cabin (a.k.a. Camp Whimsy) is very cozy for a lover of all things canine. Even her soft comfy sheets are covered in sweet little pooches.

 

Vintage paint by numbers with these regal looking fellas adorn the wall.

 

Doggy figurines and toys are gathered in a small cupboard.

Pleasant Little Sunflowers

 

My mom had a pair of these happy little sunflower pot holders hanging in our farmhouse kitchen when I was a little girl.  When she was decorating the laundry room at the cabin she found this pair on ebay and the rest is history! "Swap a Smile Trade Some Cheer" -"Let's be Happy While We're Here" Who wouldn't be happy doing laundry with these little sunflowers? 

Mommy Retreat

 

My friend Erin and I had a lovely "mommy retreat" to the cabin this weekend.

We ate lots of yummy treats, including some of these:

Then we took a walk down the road...

 

...by the meadow...

 

...where we saw chipmunks, birdies, bumblebees and some of these...

 

...and then headed back to the cozy cabin to play card games and have these...

   

...Yummy!! What a treat! What a retreat! Thanks for coming along Erin, and thanks to our dear husbands for taking good care of our little ones so we could enjoy a relaxing time. We are thankful for the time away and so very grateful to be back at home with our own little families.

The Cozy Cabin Kitchen

Thought you might enjoy a peek at some of our favorite things in Camp Whimsy's kitchen. It is small but cozy. Mom ordered the white powder coated shelving units from Martha by Mail several years ago and they are perfect for holding all of the cabin kitchen necessities (and some things we just like to look at!)

This guy is cute, happy, and...cheezy (see, it says so right on him!) You can't help  but smile when you see him.

These guys and gals have been in the family for years, I remember looking at them as a child in the farmhouse where we were raised. Now they have retired to a cabin in the mountains.

I know this isn't the best picture, but I wanted to show you this funny drawer. Mom keeps it on the counter and stores the dish towels in it. When guests come she likes to ask them what they think it is and what it is for. The responses are usually very imaginative and somewhat random, followed by laughter when mom finally reveals, "It's the towel drawer." How clever!

Vintage Games

As you can see, the game cupboard at the cabin is very full. We love both new and old games. Collecting vintage games is fun because they are fairly common, usually inexpensive and you also get the added benefit of playing them with friends and family. Here are some of our favorites:

Remember this little bug? It's Cootie! One of the few bugs we actually love (no offense to bugs).

Above  is one version of the game for boys and girls (or yes, adults too), and below is another slightly older version. You can never have too many versions of one game.

The older Cootie bugs are smaller than the newer ones.

And next.... Bingo! We love bingo! We even have a big bingo cage and a prize basket full of fabulous prizes for the winners!

And now...Skunk! This game is really cool and even though you are trying to avoid getting "skunked", the little creature is so cute it's hard not to like him!

And lastly, in honor of summer and the travel season...

...Zit-Zingo! The travel game. Basically travel bingo. The cards on this one are super cute and copies of them would be great in a crafting project. Hope you are able to start your own collection of vintage games!

Summer at the Cabin

Just back from a lovely weekend at Camp Whimsy.  Summer at the cabin is a favorite time of year. The weather is warm, but much cooler than at home, and the evenings in the mountains cool off nicely. We took many walks, visited with neighbors, made a peach cobbler in a dutch oven, played a few games and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the mountains. Here are some shots of our weekend.

A Visit to the Seashore

One of the best ways to escape the valley heat in the summer is to take a trip to the ocean or the mountains. We don't own a beach house so  the closest we come to the beach is the little sleeping porch at the back of the cabin (in the mountains!) Lori decorated it with vintage glass jars filled with shells she collected on various trips. It is painted a lovely shade of barely blue. When you are in it you just might think you're on vacation at the ocean. The only things missing are sea birds, fog and sand. Oh yeah, and the ocean. But other than that it really is just like a tiny beach hideaway!!!
